Set Up Operator for Punch Presses 100 to 600 tons

Base Pay: $11-$17/hr BOE

Employee Type: Long-Term-Temp to Perm | Full-Time

Location:  El Paso, TX

Shifts Available: 2nd Shift 4:30 pm to 3:00 am Monday – Thursday.  (Friday’s are overtime if worked).

Job Description:

A metal stamping business is seeking a professional, skilled individual for a Set Up Operator on our east side location . The Position responsibilities will include but not be limited to setting up progressive dies in coil feed hydraulic punch presses, trouble shooting, analyzing specifications, assemble parts to make and repair dies, use cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, machinists hand tools and set-up work instructions to ensure all dies and hydraulic punch press sensors are operating properly.
The Set-Up Operator may be will be required to run production barring no set-ups are requested.

Responsibilities

  • Sets Up Dies in Coil feed punch presses following Job Orders.
  • Assures all sensors and appropriate shakers are in place and operational prior to production run.
  • Uses Job Orders to determine what size of sheet metal coils are to be used Then starts running the sheet metal through the die and runs parts through the die to ensure all parts are approved.
  • Checks parts visually for scrap or burs and submits parts to Quality Control for first piece approval.
  • If the part passes, either the press operator will run the job or you might be running the job. Depending on the situation. Then you inform the Supervisor/Manager that a press is ready for production. Please make sure that all necessary gages and green sample are at work station.
  • If part does not pass, you must notify Production Supervisor and/or Tool Room Supervisor.
  • Resubmit part for first part approval when problem is corrected. No scarp on part or burs.
  • Checks Parts using green sample on yellow podium.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, documentation and engineering specifications
  • Constantly checks to ensure scrap is cleared under die to avoid damage.
  • Keeps area clean and organized.
  • Follows all safety rules and wears PPE as required. (Steel Toed Shoes, Eye and Ear Protection).
  • When the jobs is complete, you must remove die from punch presses and deliver it to the tool room along with the last piece and a Die Repair Ticket. Notifies Production Supervisor and Tool Room Manager about any die related issues.
  • You must ensure that all production data is recorded on the Scrap Yield Report, Operator Check List, Move Ticket and Labor Ticket.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Production Supervisor or Production Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to setup and operate coil fed presses ranging from 100 to 600 tons.
  • 3 years of experience in punch press metal stamping operations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Reads and writes English.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, documentation and engineering specifications
  • Maintain and follow set-up work instruction manuals
  • Determine if dies need repair and tag accordingly
  • Troubleshoot as needed
  • Initiate action to prevent nonconformities, including shutting equipment down when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Manual machining on lathes and drill press is also a plus
  • Ability to perform die sets and changeovers.

Requires basic math, reading and writing skills, as well as good manual dexterity with the ability to perform tasks with little or no supervision.
